Rea Fan Site STEPHEN REA (Benny Brady) continues his long-standing working relationship with Neil Jordan on "The Butcher Boy" --this is his sixth motion picture with the writer/director. An Academy Award nominee for his performance in Jordan's "The Crying Game," Rea subsequently also starred in "Interview With The Vampire" and "Michael Collins." His other recent credits include "Angie," "Ready to Wear (Pret A Porter)," "Trojan Eddie" and "A Further Gesture." He has recently completed work on a role in "Hacks," soon to be released.

Belfast-born Rea's other motion picture roles include "Devil And The Deep Blue Sea," "Princess Caraboo," "Bad Behavior," "Life Is Sweet," "The Doctor And The Devils" and "The House." His other performances for Neil Jordan were in "The Company Of Wolves" and "Angel." Rea's television credits include "Shadow Of A Gunman," "Days Of Hope," "The Plough And The Stars" and "Four Days In July."

In 1980, Rea formed the Field Day Theatre Company with the respected Irish playwright Brian Friel. He has acted in all Field Day's productions, including "Translations," "Double Cross," "Pentecost," "Saint Oscar" and "Uncle Vanya," and directed the company's production of "Three Sisters." His other principal theater work includes "Playboy Of The Western World" at the National Theatre in London, "Aristocrats" at Dublin's Abbey Theatre and the Hampstead Theatre's production of "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me," which transferred to Broadway.



FIONA SHAWFiona Shaw (Mrs. Nugent) is one of Ireland's most respected actresses, with a distinguished career on stage and screen. Her film credits include roles in "My Left Foot," "Mountains of the Moon," "Three Men and a Little Lady," "London Kills Me," "Super Mario Bros," "Undercover Blues," "Jane Eyre" and "Anna Karenina." Her television work includes "Sherlock Holmes" for Granada Television, "Love Song" for Anglia TV, "Maria's Child," "Hedda Gabler," "Persuasion" and "The Wasteland," all for the BBC.

Shaw's extensive theater credits include "The Rivals" at the National Theatre, and "As You Like It," "Philistines" and "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" for the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford upon Avon. Touring productions with the RSC include "Much Ado About Nothing," "The Merchant of Venice" and "Hyde Park." Her performance in "Electra" at the Barbican in London in 1990 gained her the Olivier Award for Best Actress and the London Critics Award. She received the London Critics Award again in 1992 for her performance in "Hedda Gabler" at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, and in 1993 received the Olivier Award for Best Actress and the Evening Standard Drama Award for Best Actress for her performance in "Machinal" at the National Theatre.

Her other theater work includes roles in "Footfalls" at the Garrick Theatre, "Richard II" and "Way of the World" at the National, and her acclaimed performance of "The Wasteland" in Paris, Toronto, Montreal and on Broadway.



Cast Photo EAMONN OWENS (Francie Brady) makes his motion picture debut in "The Butcher Boy" after being chosen from thousands of Irish children to take the central role in the movie. Born January 18, 1983, Eamonn is a native of Killeshandra, County Cavan, close to the border with Northern Ireland and only a few miles away from Clones, where "The Butcher Boy" was shot. Now in his first year at Saint Patrick's College, Cavan, Eamonn is a sports enthusiast, especially for football and badminton, and a musician who plays the accordion and tin whistle. He was a member of the Killeshandra Youth Band when they won an All-Ireland competition, and traveled with them to New York in 1995 to perform in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade.





ALAN BOYLE (Joe Purcell) is in the same class as his friend Eamonn in Saint Patrick's College. Born May 25, 1984, Alan attended the same school as his friend from the beginning, and also plays accordion and tin whistle. Alan is a fan of soccer, Gaelic football, handball and cycling.




This is AISLING O'SULLIVAN's (Annie Brady) second film for Neil Jordan, after her role in "Michael Collins." Her television work includes appearances in "Cracker" for Granada TV and "Runway One" for BBC Northern Ireland.

Since training at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin from 1991 to 1993, O'Sullivan's stage work has included appearances in "The Power of Darkness," "Away Alone" and "The Honeyspike" at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, in "The Playboy of the Western World" at the Almeida Theatre in London, in "Slavs" at the Hampstead Theatre, in The Seagull" (as Masha) on the Thelma Holt Tour, and in "Hysteria" at the Royal Court and Duke of York's.
